Recruiters Are Considered Scum!

Recruiters Are Considered Scum!

I think I may be considered a stalwart now in the recruitment industry – having devoted 24 years of my life to the profession of recruiting. I still enjoy the opportunity to build company talent pools and help connect people’s careers yet …. Why do I think recruiters, used car salespeople & financial planners are lumped into the same box?

6 reasons:

1) Life Decisions
Jobs, cars, houses and finances are big life decisions that have a huge impact on your life and you do remember these big decisions and whether they were positive or negative. You will remember how you were treated when making one of these life decisions – you may not remember how you were treated when you bought you last lounge or fresh juice.

2) The Scurry of the Job Market
Running a recruitment assignment today can have many interjections – last minute hidden applicants, internal recommendations, changes of structural planning by the client and sometimes more than 150 applicants all wanting daily feedback. From a candidate perspective, it’s understandable that feedback on the day is so much sought, as it’s a tough time navigating the job search, yet so often as a recruiter to maintain feedback that is bespoke and timely is a challenge. So often the recruiter does not know themselves the client feedback as the client is delaying a decision. Is is sad to see today that job ads can say – if you are not successful you will not get feedback! That seems rude as there is a huge time investment by the applicant.

3) The Recruitment Industry Isn’t Regulated
There is not even a qualification to open a recruitment company. Even the real estate market has a license. You can hang up a shingle even without a Psychology or Human Resources Degree and start finding critical people assets for organisations! How ludicrous is that!

4) The Profession of Recruitment Has No Formal Training or Qualification in Australia
I fell into recruitment from a headhunt interview with a leading recruitment company at the time, who liked the fact I was in a national sales role and had qualifications in Psychology and Human Resources. The UK has recruitment degrees – they go to university and study recruitment as a profession. That is why you meet so many UK recruiters in Australia.

5) Transient Recruiters Thinking Short Term
Many transient UK recruiters pop over to Australia for a sabbatical and do recruitment for a moment – this has often had a detrimental impact on fast, non caring hiring processes – transient recruiters are not here for the long term, not leaving good impressions about the process.

6) The Tough Reality is Recruitment is More About Respectful Rejection Rather Than Recruitment
As only one person gets the role and up to 100+ invest their time for no outcome – people are not good at handling tough decisions at times. The crazy thing now is there is Artificial Intelligence technology (robots) that screen a resume and decide if the internal recruiter reviews a resume. There is even a product to screen all the rejection letters so applicants don’t have to open the “Dear John” rejection letters …ROBOTS TALKING TO ROBOTS ABOUT A HUMAN BEING EXPERIENCE!!

NO WONDER RECRUITERS ARE CONSIDERED SCUM! To experience the Mondo difference, please visit our website and contact one of our team members.

Boards bolster Business Success. How future ready is your Board?

Proactively sponsoring a clear future people agenda is mission-critical for our Boards today. Without it, our organisations fail to adapt or prosper – particularly against the backdrop of quick technological advances, strengthening competitive forces and huge shifts in workforce and customer expectations. Under their corporate governance role, Boards now need proactive and clear ways to help their C-suite, leaders and people become future-fit.

In the quest for people future-fitness, Boards typically come up against 5 problems that prevent them from asking the right questions and getting traction:
1. Challenges – They haven’t yet specifically identified the external and internal challenges they will face in the next 3-5+years and assessed the likely people impacts
2. Readiness – They haven’t yet invested in preparing themselves to act with the right agenda, structures, toolkits or mindsets
3. Acuity – They haven’t yet taken the time or have the expertise to quantify the exact nature of the anticipated people risks or shifts
4. Fitness to Act – They may not yet have cleared the path to getting future-fit, nor have the right skills, resources, alignment and/or attention of key players in place
5. Traction – They may not yet have considered how to engage the hearts and minds of key players, nor established how to track progress in a highly visible, meaningful and objective ways

While seemingly complex and difficult to pin down, the key is for the Board to tackle these problems in priority order, based on an objective assessment of the current state of play. Through this lens, they can build a clear and structured approach and a framework against which to positively shape the future with near-term traction.

Can customers have a meaningful conversation with a robot? By Katja Forbes

Leading global powerhouses are currently directing energy and resources toward experimenting with specific Chat Bot experiences for different user groups. However, because they are effectively just an intelligent technical interaction, customers are not actually engaging with a real person. Whether customers prefer to talk with a robot or a human (and if they actually even notice) and how this affects the customer experience has been a debatable issue.

Chat Bots (short for Chat Robots, and sometimes referred to as virtual assistants, avatars and just plain old bots) are essentially computer programs that simulate human conversations with people using artificial intelligence and machine learning. Starting out as basic FAQ systems on websites, nowadays they can transform the way a user interacts from a series of self-initiated tasks to a quasi-conversation, and look set to replace many App functions entirely. Essentially a Chat Bot is created to assist a user solve a problem or attend to their query. They can provide very simple information, like a weather report, or help you troubleshoot a computer problem. Whilst one user is usually human, applications are currently being developed to allow two chat bots to communicate with one another.

Chat Bots are the perfect customer experience tool for small to medium size wineries to adapt right now, whilst technology and trends are still developing and new advances in artificial intelligence are being made. It’s a stepping stone to speech self-service. Imagine the conversation with your Amazon Alexa or Google Home: “Alexa, order me a dozen 2017 shiraz from my favourite winery”. If you’ve got a working chatbot, you’re already half way there to being able to fulfil that request.

I can see the immediate benefits of Chat Bots over live chat, with an actual customer services agent. Chat Bots can have unlimited concurrent conversations (humans can only realistically focus properly on a few at the same time), provide coverage 24/7, and the cost per conversation is significantly less. In addition, with a live agent, it would be impossible for them to provide a conversation experience and professional manner that is consistent across multiple different customers and even throughout the one conversation with the same customer. With a Chat Bot, businesses can be confident the conversation will always take the same format and tone.

Creating a Chat Bot doesn’t have to be a large complicated project in which to invest a lot of time and energy. With CellarChat, it’s easy to get set up with your own product range, take bookings for tastings and answer a hundred other repetitive queries effortlessly by leveraging artificial intelligence.
Automation is not necessarily something to be afraid of, as long as human thought processes are at its heart.

Contractors are Contributing to Business Success

The “try before you buy” principle is strong in the field of recruitment.  More and more companies are not certain of their business forecasts and with the increased regulations around redundancy and/or terminations, many employers are choosing the option of a contractor over a permanent employee.

There are many advantages of contractors:

> Project focused – give them a job need to be done – have it met and close the employment tenure;

> Contractors can be “expensed” on the Profit & Loss, so the overhead of payroll/superannuation and workers compensation can be reduced;

> Flexibility of resourcing staff;

> If the contractor proves more than resourceful, you have the option to offer them a full-time role.

Contracting has increased in the area of IT, finance, sales, marketing and human resources.  You may have a Brand plan to be revised with a fresh set of eyes; you may have a “one-off” promotion to be launched on-premise or you may require an extra set of “sales force hands”.

You may have a budget to be reviewed, or a remuneration review to take place.  All of these kinds of projects are perfectly suited for a contractor! Like temping, more and more executives also enjoy contracting.  It allows them to be “project focused” without the need to get involved in company politics.  It allows more freedom and flexibility of hours and the opportunity to have interim breaks between projects.

Most contractors tend to be “over qualified” for the position, so that when they commence a contract, they are already up to speed.  For example, if we were asked to fill a Contract State Manager role, we would tend to place someone that had managed up to National Sales level.  This reduces the time the contractor has to “learn the job, versus doing the job”. The benefit of this is now mature executives are securing more contract projects. Their years of experience are an asset to managing a contract assignment.

So in conclusion, contracting can help your business bottom line. For any short term needs in business please call us as we have a suite of expert contractors in all disciplines on tap and ready to roll!
